Fielders swept by Schaumburg
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Lake County looked to improve their record against the Schaumburg Flyers this season but Lake County could not tame the red hot offense of the Flyers in this past weekend series.
Schaumburg got on the board in their half of the first inning against Alec Lewis when Travis Brown, the leadoff man for the Flyers, hit his fifth triple of the season to get the offense rolling. Ruddy Yan followed with an RBI single to centerfield scoring Brown. For the second day in a row, Kit Pellow hit a home run in the first inning, his third of the year giving Schaumburg a 3-0 lead before Lewis recorded an out.
The offense for the Flyers continued in the second inning. With two outs Brown reached on an error and was driven home by Yan who was thrown out at second base to end the inning.
Lake County got on the board against Flyers starter Dustin Glant in their half of the third inning when Kyle Higgins slapped his 17thdouble of the year and scored the first run for the Fielders when Juan Valdes doubled for the 13th time this year.
The crooked numbers kept coming for Schaumburg as they added three runs on four hits in the fourth inning when Fran Riordan pulled starter Alec Lewis. Lewis ended up throwing three and two thirds innings, giving up nine hits and seven runs, six of which were earned. He made way for reliever Justin Jordan.
In the sixth inning against Jordan, Chris Shultz led off with his third homer of the season to left centerfield. Another run was added after Travis Brown was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Mario Delgado.
Lake County did not get back on the board against Glant until the seventh inning when Cody Strait hit his sixth home run of the year over the left field wall. The Fielders added two more runs in the eighth when Strait led off with a solid single and Adam Hale followed with his first triple of the year pulling Lake County within five but that’s as close as they would get falling in a three game series sweep versus Lake County.
The Fielders come home Tuesday to wrap up their 2010 season with a seven game homestand. They take on the Kansas City T-Bones on Tuesday and finish the season with a four game set against Rockford.
